What makes you think it will be "fun", other than taking Twister a bit too seriously?

It's official...

Our brothers are losing their litteratrash, but they can use "mobile devices" to study, and have meetings, and preach!
Yeah, that's the reason they should embrace technology; in case the government comes to take their literature away. Not because it's the 21st century and it makes life so much easier.

Oldest Person Alive
by bemused infollowing the death of susannah jones of the us on 12 may 2016, the oldest person alive today is emma morano of italy.. many years ago i remember my recently converted relative desperately trying to convince me that i too should become a witness because the world was certain to end before the last person who was 15 or older at the outbreak of the first world war had passed away, so time was short if i was to have any hope of reaching paradise etc etc.. i didn't become a witness and, although i know that jw doctrine has changed since then, it's interesting to note that the late ms jones was born on 6 july 1899 so had just reached 15 when ww1 started on 28 july 1914; ms morano was born on 29 november 1914 so was only 14 at the outbreak of war.
there is no one living who was 15 or older at the beginning of ww1.
i wonder if my relative and other zealous witnesses from that period ever reflect on the nonsense they were preaching then?.

Mine is coming up in July. We're doing a private ceremony by the river with a few friends and family members. We have a friend who is an ordained minister, who is going to perform the ceremony.
We decided to forego a fancy, extravagant affair for something small and simple. A lot less stressful.

Is it common practice to keep using Kingdom Halls after congregations have been dissolved?
by keyser soze ini ask, because a neighboring congregation of where i used to attend was dissolved, and the people from there were scattered about to whatever congregation was closest.
but it turns out that they still meet at the old kingdom hall a couple times a week, for field service.
apparently this is done for tax purposes.. i suppose from a fiscal standpoint it makes sense, though it seems a little deceitful.

Maybe they have to meet there to keep it tax exempt?
That's exactly the reason they're doing it.
If they think they might recreate the congregation in the near future, it may be better to hold on to the hall instead of building a new one.
I find it a little odd that it's been over a year, and the property, which is fully paid for, and deeded to the society, still hasn't been listed. It may well be for reasons other than financial, that they dissolved the congregation. But my sister and brother in law attended the congregation. He was an elder. I hadn't heard about anything negative going on. But then, I'm not always in the loop anymore.

JWs in denial, so sad
by Simon ini had a couple of jw sisters call at my door today.. they started with the bizarre "can we read you a scripture" and read about "death being no more" and asked what i thought of that.. i said it sounded like a mix of disney and dumb.. they then launched into how god was going to put an end to death and wasn't that wonderful?.
i said it would have been more wonderful if he'd not created death in the first place.. they thought man created death by disobeying so i questioned why god couldn't have just forgiven them.
apparently "because he loves us" is supposed to be a satisfactory answer to why he kills us.. i asked how loving it was to kill hundreds of thousands of children in tsunami's, disease and so on.. at this point, they gave up on the 'god is love' and switched to the bible being true no matter what because it was an old book and moses had written the first chapter (says the book).. when i suggested it really wasn't that old and that most of the bible myths were copies of older stories from before it was written they questioned if i studied the bible and theology.. then i told them i was brought up as a jw so knew it was all crap.. now it was game on, they immediately switched to play defence questioning why i'd left (and i think they'd already taken a step back away from "the evil" obviously emanating from me).. not much time to say much before they cut and run so i told them i'd left because i found out it was all based on lies and that the watchtower was corrupt and covered up things like child abuse.. oh no, you're thinking of the catholics one of them said (some disdain in how she said "catholics" as though "we're so much better than them").. "well, i challenge you to do a search for the australian royal commission and you'll see the testimony the watchtower leaders gave and the damning evidence that they covered up abuse and reported none of it to the police.".

And they were gone.
Let me guess: They wanted to stay and talk with you longer, but they had people waiting in the car for them.

Congratulations! It will be my 11th straight year. I can't tell you how liberating it is to not have to plan for it every year. Not to mention not having to deal with the prospect of actually sitting through it for 3 straight days.
